I finally finished #3! Many long days and nights, cussing myself out, high-fiving myself, and kind of being a human, and now I have 3 completed manuscripts in my possession. Which has been a funny road to travel.
When I started writing this series, I didn’t even know what a manuscript was. I thought it was the outline for the book. And now I have 3 novel-length manuscripts, with a handful more to go (the rest are in novella-length at the moment).
Also when I started writing the series, I was used to writing screenplays and lyrics. So going from a third-person present-tense to a third-person past-tense was SUPER awkward and tricky. But I think I got the hang of it around #5.
While I’ve always wanted to be a storyteller, the medium kept changing over the years. And I never thought I was smart enough to write books, so I learned how to write everything else. I think the biggest thing going against me is MOST of my current writing has been all whitepapers and technical how-to’s, which really don’t have a narrative, and up to this point I never needed a “voice” to transfer information to people.
When I sat down to start this series, I never even thought about what a voice was, or what mine would sound like. And from personal experience, it’s…interesting. I’m not gonna dump on it too much because I don’t want to lose potential readers, I’m just being a realist.
Aaaanyway, that’s enough rambling for now. Gonna go brainstorm some stuff for 4. Maybe think about my life choices and how awesome I am at choosing things. I mean, I can say that’s what I’ll do, but we both know I’d be lying.
Until next time, readers!
