There’s not a whole lot going on right now, so there’s nothing to really update. I printed out my first manuscript to send it to my sister (who’s a teacher) with a red pen. It’s gonna be weird to be graded by someone I grew up with and used to run around the backyard playing Conan the Barbarian. I guess that’s part of growing up.
I will say I’m enjoying revisiting my manuscripts to revise and expand them, it’s been like a year since I even opened the second one. Now I’m thrusting myself back to the past, so to speak, in terms of my protagonist and getting back into that headspace.
My chat buddies always ask what I hope readers get out of my series, and I just tell them I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I have writing it. It’s not your normal story (I know a lot of authors say that, so I’ll just be another one), with a protagonist you’re not familiar with.
Yes, it’s a sci-fi series, and it has your regular sci-fi tropes in it, but every one of them are handled differently than you think they would be. I should name the series “Subverting Expectations”. I’m still waiting on the trademark application to be finalized before I start spamming my socials with the name of the series.
It’s a perfect name, too. I chose it to invoke the sense of adventure the protagonist goes on. I wanted this to be more of an experience than just something to read. But I’m getting ahead of myself, I’m only on the second manuscript and I JUST started revising and expanding it, so we’ll get to everything else when it comes up.
Until next time, readers!
